The last time I was in city road crematorium was way back in the 70's when my grandad passed away I found the place rather dull but as a school boy what places looked it didn't matter but the place in the crematorium where the service is held and the coffin is sent on it's way, I realised that I never got the chance to say bye to my grandad when he was in the chapel of rest and his coffin was opened. I literally broke down in tears knowing that I will never see him again. The next time I was at city road was in the 80's when a work colleague had passed away, he was buried near the main entrance I have to agree that the grounds are in immaculate condition and are well looked after, there is a fellow in city road cemetery who invented the crossword he was buried 5 across and 4 down. The rest of my family my Grandma and my father they went to Hutcliffe Wood crematorium but I never went to my father's funeral as my dad's evil girlfriend told me he had passed away 4 months previous when in fact he was still alive.

Very upset regarding the state of the area of my sons grave. Graves with trees growing out of the. . Damaged headstones overgrown graves and graves buried under the overgrowth. But the most distressing of all was of damaged sunken graves that you can actually look down into the grave . Very disrespectful that the dead should be treated this way and the area has been left in such a state while the rest of the cemetary gets tended to. This Cemetary is i'm told the responsibiluty of Sheffield council and is listed grade 2.

This is a lovely place to take a walk. It's well maintained and looks peaceful. My only issue is with the cars. Many speed up the paths with little regard to pedestrians. It surprises me that there's not 5MPH signs around the grounds as it can feel dangerous at times.

Came to the chapel a little early as we had travelled a distance for the service. Headed in and spoke to a woman (staff) How rude my father started to ask are we in the right place and she interrupted abruptly and pointed to a corner of the corridor wait there there's a service waiting. So I tried to say are we in the right place and again she interrupted and then began aggressively moving towards steering my father away. Very rude abrupt and disrespectful there was no need at all. disgraceful behaviour

A very nice and accessible cemetery with graves from a century ago to the modern day. It's a very peaceful place to walk around despite being adjacent to the main road, particularly in the evenings when the road gates are locked. There is a crematorium at the front of the site with an old dilapidated chapel in the middle of the plot which as of September 2018 is finally being renovated after decades of neglect. Due to the slope many of the graves are in poor condition with toppled stonework and cracked or broken monuments. These are being maintained and repaired but it's a shame to see them so run down. Well worth a walk around, not as overgrown as the General Cemetery and with fewer of the great and good buried there, but a nice visit nonetheless.
