I currently worship at this Catholic church and it has been a wonderful spiritual home. The community is very welcoming and supportive, which makes it easy to feel part of the parish. The priests celebrate Mass with reverence and deliver homilies that are meaningful and easy to connect with in daily life. The church itself is peaceful and well kept, offering a quiet space for prayer and reflection. There are also opportunities to get involved in parish activities and meet people, which helps to build a strong sense of belonging. It’s a place where faith feels alive, and I’m grateful to be part of it.
What a quiet cathedral. Nobody ask you to take off your hat and do anything else. People inside are having their prayers in quietness. Colourful glass light could be found if you observe carefully.
Known to most Catholics in Sheffield simply as St. Marie's Church but it's also the Sheffield's Catholic, Hallam Cathedral. Beautiful place, just over the road from the famous Crucible Theatre. In, to the side of the Lady's Chapel, up a few stairs, there's an area dedicated to the Polish service men who fought alongside the British in WWII.
Stunning but not overstated, the Cathedral Church of St Marie is Sheffield's second cathedral, built in 1850. The interior is peaceful and thoughtful, full of gold decoration but not overly gaudy. Slightly smaller than the other cathedral, St Marie's is filled with memorials and artwork in every niche and alcove. There are several separate transepts, each with their own places for prayer. There are regular services each day, guided tours every Wednesday and even organ demonstrations a few times a month. The website is very good for showing what's on.
