Fantastic gallery with art to suit all budgets. Always a warm welcome and a friendly face at Cupola! Showing over 300 artists. Original paintings, prints, ceramics, sculptures, jewellery and cards. Member of the Own Art scheme to spread the cost interest free. A fantastic cultural institution established over 30 years.
Very accessible, great art, some by local artists and warming refreshments. Karen was on good form and I purchased 2 original Christmas decorations. Did I mention there was coffee and cake?
Another excellent framing job by Liz and the Team at Cupola Gallery. Thank you for the jigsaw too, which we completed in a couple of hours this morning. Took 2 fine art prints for framing and I am very pleased with the final results. Very reasonable charges, good selection of frames available, and to view samples of in store. Dropped off my prints, was advised it'd be a couple of weeks and that was also accurate. Received a text notification of readiness. Wrapped in clear cellophane for total protection on collection. The shop also has several gallery rooms on site and artwork for sale if anything takes your fancy. I would wholeheartedly recommend Cupola Gallery.
The Cupola Gallery is a Sheffield institution. For over 30 years Karen Sherwood has been working tirelessly to bring beautiful affordable art to Sheffield. I thoroughly recommend that you pop along and buy something to hang on your wall that gives you a bit of joy every day. Photos Martin Langford and Craig knight
A fabulous gallery with a craft shop and it's own framing shop next-door! Established in 1991, it has regular changing exhibitions of fine art and find craft. The staff are always extremely welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful, and are knowledgeable about the artwork. Karen Sherwood, who is a highly skilled and established painter, is also the owner and curator of the gallery. She splits her week between her studio at SOAR Works and the gallery. Some of her painting can be seen in the gallery. The Cupola gallery comprises a small but well-stocked shop with wide variety of high-quality handmade items, and one downstairs gallery room with window display. A small walled sculpture garden at the back of the shop and a set of steep metal steps, takes you from the garden up to a second internal gallery area. There are two rooms here. The toilet is also accessed via these external stairs. In addition to this, there is access to Cupola's framing shop from the garden and street. Exhibitions are very varied with exciting themes, including "open exhibitions" and the well-known Underneath the Bed Sale which encourages artists and skilled hobbiests of all techniques and styles, to sell those art pieces which are gathering dust or sitting in cupboards unsold. It's probably the most popular and busiest event of the year. It is bargain bonanza for art-lovers with hundreds, if not thousands of artworks to look through! I picked up several treats last time. Items range from just £1 to a few hundred and often include well-respected artists! My perfect glass paperweight cost just £3. Additionally, it is definitely the most disabilities-aware and proactively inclusive venue I have ever visited! As a disabled person /disabled artist this is a breath of fresh air! Karen and her staff will always offer to video exhibitions which unfortunately might be out of reach to people with poor or limited mobility. And yes, this even includes the massive UTBS! ACCESS : There is a single fairly shallow step into the shop and ground floor gallery, and similar to step down into the garden at the back of the shop. The outdoor metal steps leading to the other gallery spaces are steep though, and the steps are deeper. The only toilet is upstairs via the garden. There is a sofa to sit and rest one of the gallery rooms upstairs. I took my wheelchair and was encouraged to bring it into the shop and I folded it up and was very welcome to leave it in the shop while I looked around. I'm sure that if a chair was needed while a customer looked around, staff would find one for them to rest. Nothing is ever too much bother!
