I had a disappointing experience at The Quays leisure centre today. Upon entering, I noticed ongoing work being done upstairs, which resulted in a thick fog of dust and a strong smell of fumes. The air quality was poor, and I was coughing in the changing rooms, along with many other members who seemed to be affected. Out of concern for my health and safety, I decided to abort my workout session and come back when the gym is safer to train in. When I was leaving, I mentioned to a female staff member that several people were coughing, and I was surprised by her rude and unprofessional response: "What do you want me to do about it?" Her tone was abrupt and dismissive, which was both shocking and upsetting. As a member, I expect to be treated with respect and professionalism, especially when seeking assistance or simply expressing concern. Her attitude made me feel as though I was being dismissed or silenced, which is unacceptable. The gym should prioritize the health and safety of its members. Overall, I am very disappointed with the service and the disrespectful attitude shown by this staff member. It’s a shame because I value my time at the gym, but experiences like this undermine that. I hope the management addresses this issue to improve customer service standards.
I have been a member here for nearly 3 years. They renovated the gym this year with equipment which is nice and up to date. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I like that the gym is rarely overcrowded at the times I use it. It has to be the best value for money gym/spa in Sheffield, most others are quite a lot more expensive.
Warning: Unsafe & Uncaring Environment for Women, old tired dirty pool and changing areas. Over crowded, expensive and horrible. My friend and I were forced to abandon our membership at Quays Leisure Centre due to the recent unacceptable and escalating intimidating behavior from large groups of men in the pool area. We endured a lack of swimwear, blatant disregard for hygiene (no showering after work outs and getting straight in pool), dangerous jumping, and constant, disgusting staring, rude comments, intentional splashing, groups of men with phones out, and laughter directed at us solely because we are women. The environment became so hostile and oppressive that we no longer felt safe or welcome. Despite reporting these alarming concerns to reception multiple times, absolutely nothing improved. The management's lengthy response to our final email complaint (as nothing changed after complaining in person) was a pathetic attempt to dismiss our legitimate complaints, saying 'we dont have a life guard so we cant see what happens'. We were compelled to leave due to their utter failure to provide a safe environment and take any action about our complaints. Do not expect them to care about your concerns or provide a secure space. It's also dirty, tired and extremely overwhelmed crowded in general. We will never be returning.
Good gym equipment is all new , good people and friendly staff especially Anna who goes above and beyond for people! Gym is generally quite so you can get a nice workout sauna and steam is great, men’s changing rooms and showers need upgrading I was told this will happen towards the end of 2025
If I could leave zero stars I would. I mainly used this club for swimming but did use the gym occasionally. The gym has been recently refurbished and the new machines ate top notch. Thats where the good points end I'm afraid. The changing rooms and toilets are disgusting. Mold everywhere. They smell. My partner tells me the men's are 10 times worse. Nearly all of the lockers are broken and you still need a pound to use them - an absolute joke given the price you already pay to be a member here. The pool is small and often dirty and full of sand but has a small sauna and steam room. In recent months it has become a lot more busy and its now impossible to swim properly. There's also no regard for the pool rules, I've seen men in their boxer shorts. Sitting by the pool on their phones (despite the no phones policy), jumping in and intentionally splashing. Entering the pool after being in the gym or sauna without showering. It made me uncomfortable as a woman to have so many men sat around the pool edge on their phones. I've also had repeat infections while attending this pool, perhaps reflecting how unclean it is. The mold in the showers also aggravated my asthma. Upon raising these concerns in person and by email I was completely dismissed, laughed at and told there was nothing they could do. Dont waste your money on this place. I've found somewhere a lot better and a lot cheaper. I would especially avoid if you are a woman. It's not a safe space. The male receptionist with the slicked back blonde hair is particularly rude, misogynistic and dismissive. He also has made unsolicited comments on my outfit in the past - I hope he was just trying to be friendly but it came off as creepy. So glad to never be going back here.
