Revising a previous 5* review from 2 years ago. This is the sole supplier of uniform for my children's school, I can't go elsewhere. In early August they had no sizes suitable for a 10th centile 11 year old boy and said they wouldn't be ordering any small sizes for the rest of this year. My poor son will be playing sports in a top that looks like a dress. The young man who helped me was good but seemed a bit less sure of himself than the young lady who helped me a couple of years ago. The older man here is downright rude and unpleasant to his staff and to customers. I would never let my children work here, I do not like shopping here. I will be reporting back to the school about this. The uniform is for an independent school with a larger than average branded uniform list, so I'm surprised Whittaker's are so blasé about proving good service. ** 2 years ago ** Really great service in the store today from a young lady. First time we have used this emporium for our great nephew (11yrs) who is moving on to his new senior school. The service given, especially from the assistant manager, was first class. She was very patient with us as we were unsure as to which bits of uniform were applicable to his school. Even when we had to return an item, which was oversized, she still dealt with us in a friendly and helpful way, no problem was to big for her in ensuring we got what we needed. The staff need a big pat on the back as on both occasions we visited the shop was very busy but every customer was treated with the same respect. Great service, the manager should be well pleased with his team.

The older shop floor male member of staff is abrupt and direct to the point of being rude. When we queried between ourselves whether a certain garment would be suitable for a certain purpose at school, he interjected with “well if they’re not, why am I even selling them then?”. Will avoid in future.

This is a good shop to go to for school uniform or workwear. It is situated on a main road but there is parking at the back which is free but time limited and usually has spaces available. The shop itself is clean and usually well stocked. Anything not in stock can be ordered and the wait is not too long. Staff are helpful and friendly. Best times to visit is after schools have opened as during the holidays it can get quite busy.
