Avoid Boutique 25 in Skipton if you don’t want your holiday ruined. The only redeeming feature of this place is the housekeeper, who deserves a medal for working here. Everything else belongs in an anthology of bad hotels. The rooms look nothing like the glossy photos — unless you enjoy spectacular optical illusions that can turn a donkey into a Porsche. The mattress is soft and saggy, the shower has all the practicality of a garden hose nailed to the wall, and the water couldn’t be persuaded to get hot. The rooms are freezing, but don’t expect heating — instead you’ll be offered a cheap electric radiator, presented as if it were a luxury feature. Noise from the pub in the basement makes sleep impossible — unless you happen to enjoy the sound of thudding bass as a lullaby. The host/receptionist? Rude, dismissive, and allergic to helpfulness. When I asked for ice to treat an injury, his only concern was that “the towels would get wet.” His answer: “We don’t have that kind of ice.” (I wasn’t aware there were different breeds of ice — perhaps icebergs, cubes, or stalactites?) A request for late checkout? Denied. Help with luggage? “The housekeeper will do it.” On arrival, I was told this is “a hotel for couples.” That explains the Bible in the drawer — clearly there for some light, edifying pillow talk. This isn’t a boutique hotel. It’s a cold, noisy, badly run joke — but without the laughs.
I would love to give a full review of this hotel, but I can’t because I never actually managed to stay there. I was visiting Skipton for a wedding, I called and arranged to meet a member of staff earlier in the day to drop off our bags and collect our room key. I arrived at the agreed time, and waited, knocking on the door for 25 minutes. There was no answer at the door so I tried calling the phone number again 20 times with no answer. I had to leave because we were going to be late for the wedding we were attending. As I was MC at the wedding it wasn’t possible for me to leave to get to the hotel, and after waiting in the rain earlier in the day I had no faith that anyone would be there later. The hotel tried phoning me later in the evening but I couldn’t answer at that point. All in all a very disappointing experience.
Cheap and cheerful we had top floor apartment 3 rooms was clean and comfortable only downfall was the stairs really steep and narrow no gate at top to stop anyone from falling down stairs if you were with children ,bed was very low and could do with renewing as matress was very well used ,couldn't get hot water at all but still had a canny stay ,
This hotel describes itself as, “Our hotel offers six stylish bedrooms – each individually designed. Deluxe and luxury features around the hotel include king sized beds, flat screen TVs, music players and roll top / jacuzzi baths.” It’s rare I write a negative review as I hate to be mean to people trying their best, but I can’t not warn others what to expect. My husband booked the hotel, taken in by the name and description without checking the reviews. He’d have realised, had he done so, that this hotel was not going to provide as promised. It’s very nicely located in a fine town and the building was clearly once grand with a lovely history. It was clean. I didn’t see any staff, but Mark said the chap who gave him his keys was pleasant and helpful. Thereafter, you’re left with a relic of what could be a fine hotel, but is not even shabby chic - just worn and tired shabby cheap. The shower was luke warm. I couldn’t get the tv to work properly. We couldn’t find the parking entrance. I’ve no idea if breakfast was provided and no one mentioned it and all was dead when we came downstairs. It’s not a proper hotel at all; rather a building with rooms you can sleep in. The furniture was cheap and worn and it was not stylish and never would have been even if new. I know we all have different tastes, but this was not boutique unique or even quirky. It was just the opposite. We only paid £90 and for one night passing through, it did its job. I wouldn’t have given any review as I slept ok and, as I say the bedding was clean etc, however, when I read how they describe themselves, that’s when I decided to review. Just be honest. Say it’s a basic, good clean place to lay your head and price it accordingly. Don’t sell your rooms on fibs by bigging up something that doesn’t exist. You’re asking for a negative response I’m afraid. Sorry to be tough, but I could never recommend this “hotel” as it is. It’s got potential to be lovely if freshly decorated with new furnishings, but until then I’d steer clear.
Romm was clean, bed was comfy, staff were friendly, WiFi was fast & free, and the basement bar is a good place for a drink. Couldn't ask for more
