You know, its hard to find a business you can absolutely trust these days. But from the moment I first contacted John Brown 4x4 to enquire about a series 3 land rover they have been honest, direct and have at every turn stuck to their word. I purchased said series 3 and even though I live just under 300 miles away they helped when I had an unforseen ignition issue, and when I say helped they came to look at my truck, got it back to the garage, fixed the problem and I drove it back without a single hitch. Amazing! I have and will contiue to reccomend them to anyone. Thank you guys!

We have just purchased a 1972 series III from John Browns and we are extremely happy with the vehicle. We travelled to John Briwns to see the vehicle and test drive it and they were extremely welcoming. John and his team answered any questions we asked. The condition of the vehicle is as described in the advert and we couldn't be happier. We paid the deposit there and then and the vehicle was checked over the next few days and once done it was transported to our home address by transporter, again Jonny, the driver, provided an extremely professional service. From start to finish the communication has been spot on. Very much recommended

Having built an overlander and owned several Land Rovers over the years, I’m well aware of both their highs and lows. John came across as knowledgeable, professional, and offered clear, practical advice on how best to allocate my limited restoration budget without wasting money. In today’s world, that level of honesty and expertise is refreshing. I would strongly recommend their services to anyone looking to restore their beloved Land Rover.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!! NON ROAD WORTHY CARS , PAINTED AND RESOLD AS EXCELLENT EXAMPLES. ! If you are considering purchasing a car from John 4x4 Ltd, I strongly suggest you have your own independent inspection carried out and do not believe a word they have said or written in their advert. After arranging an independent inspection by the same garage that had previously repaired the car for John 4 x 4 Ltd. I was given a £9,000 estimate to make the car safe and free from faults. They have refused my request for a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which allows for a full refund within 30 days if goods are faulty. I then contacted the Citizens Advice Bureau, who confirmed that the Consumer Rights Act does apply, even when the purchase is made through an eBay auction, provided the seller is a business. I will now be sending a “Letter Before Action” to John 4x4 Ltd by recorded delivery. If they ignore this, I will have no choice but to issue County Court proceedings. All of my time, repair costs, court fees, and solicitor’s fees will then have to be paid by John 4x4 Ltd. John 4x4 Ltd clearly understand they would lose a court case, but this appears to be one of their delay tactics to avoid refunding customers when selling faulty cars. Many local trade professionals are already aware of their practices, buying write-offs, project cars, doing a quick paint job, and then reselling them as “excellent examples.” On 5 October 2025, my husband and I purchased a vehicle from John 4x4 after successfully winning a bid on eBay. We travelled to collect the vehicle, which on inspection appeared to be in good cosmetic condition. Based on this and the representations made in the listing, we proceeded with the purchase. However, shortly after driving the vehicle home, I began to notice an unusual noise while steering. Concerned, I arranged for the vehicle to be inspected by a qualified mechanic. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had significant faults with the power steering system, requiring urgent repairs estimated at approximately £2,000. Given the nature and scale of the fault, which would reasonably have been present at the time of sale, I contacted John 4x4 to request a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which entitles buyers to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described within 30 days of purchase. I was extremely disappointed with the seller’s response. Their tone was abrupt and defensive, in stark contrast to their initially friendly approach during the sale. It was clear from their reply that they have a rehearsed, procedural response to such complaints , suggesting this may not be an isolated incident. Their Response ! “We have made our position clear following robust, professional legal advice and will not be commenting further on this matter. The interpretations you have sent us in relation to The Consumer Act 2015 are wholly incorrect and we would encourage you to seek legal advice. As you are not entitled to a refund on this vehicle, you are not welcome to attend our premises or bring your vehicle on site. Your intention to attend our premises when not invited to do so has been logged with North Yorkshire Police - who are aware of the situation and have advised John Brown 4x4 to inform you in this email not to attend our premises. Should you opt to attend against our request, North Yorkshire Police will attend the premises to have you and your vehicle removed. To be clear, we are exercising our right of exclusion toward you in this matter - any attempt to enter John Brown 4x4's premises will constitute commercial trespass. We are exercising this right to maintain the safety and security of our premises and staff, who have a legal right to work without fear of abuse. I recently bought a Series 3 Land Rover from John Brown 4x4. I found a problem with a fuel leak and was asked to take it back at my convenience but as soon as possible. The problem was dealt with very quickly by the friendly and knowledgeable team. Nothing was a bother to them, very helpful. Other queries were looked at and resolved at the same time. The team show a quality of care and service rarely found these days. A pleasure doing business with them and would highly recommend them.
