Be aware it’s approx 3 mile walk each way to lighthouse from car park. Walk has some great views and is a mix of beach, sandy trails and concrete paths. This distance would be perfectly fine, even with a young child, however not fine when you get to the lighthouse to find its closed, even though google says it was open and there is a we are open sign outside the door. Quite disappointing.
Went during a wet weekday in summer holidays, so was pleased to see it open as Google said it wouldn't be. £4 adult entry or £10 for a family. Which, I guess is quite reasonable really to see something a bit different to the normal. There are 4 levels of displays including a bit of history of the area and why the lighthouses were there. Fairly interesting, but really only there for the view to see how far you had walked, and actually how far it is to the end of the point! You can't go outside on the balcony, but you can stand where the light used to be. As it was quiet we spent a good 20 minutes at the top and around an hour there in total. They sell cans of pop and chocolate bars and ice cream tubs at the bottom. The chap there was very nice and chatty and I could imagine him in his sou'westers on a wet and dark night keeping the light on (probably akin to an episode of Scooby Doo...) 🙂
Old lighthouse you can pay to go in and climb the stairs for great views of the Humber, North Sea, beaches, nature reserve, and boats. We were on a walk around Spurn Head and would have loved a hot drink and cake but they can't offer that yet, so we had a cold drink and chocolate bar sat on the picnic tables outside.
Travelled here with my parents amd we had quite a nice time. Whilst it is a long walk there it is worth it for the view. Alongside the view they have plenty of information around on the spern and the lighthouse itself. The person they had working the entrance of the lighthouse was very friendly.
Great day out very interesting the cool drink was just what I needed. Excellent views from the top of the light house . Defiantly worth a return visit
