About

Description

Over the past two years, members of the Stamford Bridge Sports Hall Association have been working on a project of conversion to form a Community Youth Heritage Centre at the Old Station.

As a Heritage Centre, it will tell the history of the village using a time line theme depicting its development. A tapestry, commemorating the Battle of Stamford Bridge on September 25, 1066, in the style of the Bayeux one, is being created by local ladies. The quality of the Stamford Bridge Tapestry is gathering fame and is expected to become a national treasure. The tapestry group will hold meetings in the centre and give talks and demonstrations to villagers and visiting groups.

This building reflects the very special and original village values and it is proposed to build on the fact that the Old Station is a trusted safe haven for the local community. The Sports Hall Association has a history of providing social events and these are the result of residents taking action to address local needs or problems. We are building on this history to develop and help the next generation of the community. We hope that you will regularly enjoy the facilities on offer here.
