Enterprise Car & Van Hire - York East

Kind of a mixed experience. I nearly didn't get the van at all because I don't have a credit card (I could rent a car but not a van for some reason), but we managed to batter our way through the system eventually. Van was great - until it refused to start on day 3, labouring and whirring and complaining. According to AA guy, the battery was shot (and had failed previousy), oil was low and vehicle was long past needing a service. Got it running long enough to ditch it at the Ford garage and gave up at this point. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and responsive, and their price was very competitive. You get what you pay for I suppose. I did get a modest refund for returning the van early, but but the whole episode has left me £100s out of pocket. Vehicles break down, fair enough. But this could have easily been avoided by checking the oil and getting the service done. It's not rocket science.

Car delivered to my workplace after dark, despite me asking for it to be delivered any time after 10am. Impossible to check thoroughly for any damage, but I was still expected to sign to say I had checked. When the car was collected, I was unable to be present, but had checked it thoroughly 3 hours previously, and left it at my address. I received a voicemail informing me that the window was cracked and I would be charged for this. When I rang the branch, they said it was a small crack which the collecting employee initially didn't spot on his checks, leading me to believe that is may have been easily missed on a check in the dark when I received the car. I say leading me to believe its a small crack, because, despite the money being taken from my account, I have yet to be shown the damage, even though I have requested it by phone and email. Polite staff don't make enough difference to risk being ripped off again, so I will be refusing to use enterprise in future. Please note they were not my choice but the car was provided by a third party insurer after my car was hit by their driver.

Hired a van from these guys for a day; the service was friendly, efficient and excellent from booking online to pickup and return. The staff were welcoming, the van clean, the booking out and return processes were clearly explained, optional extras were presented in a low-pressure way (unlike some other hire places), I was allowed to leave my car on site whilst out in the van, and overall the experience was a positive one. I recommend them to others and will use them again.

Great choice of cars and vans available at good prices. Long opening hours. Friendly and efficient staff. Special mention for Dan who was courteous and helpful.

Great staff, but be warned if you are delivering back to St Pancreas the location information of the depot is a shambles and there is no signage on site, complete pain.
