We stayed in the one bed "cottage" No2. It wasn't very clean, things felt icky and unloved. There was no bin, no soap in the bathroom. The blanket on the double bed was dirty, the kitchen units needing a good wipe down. Then we heard dripping, discovered a leak under the sink, went to tell the owner who said "just put the washing up bowl under to catch the water" a short while later a chap shows up, has a look and says "we'll get the plumber back on Monday " apparently he'd been the day before to fix a leaking tap. We went into York for the evening and when we got back the washing up bowl was full to the brim. We had to use a pan to scoop out the water and wrapped the dish cloth around the pipe to dull the dripping noise. Put the tv on and there's a white line about 2-3cm wide running down the screen. On the plus side there are a selection of china mugs for your cup of tea. The cottage gets cold at night but the bedroom heater works well. This could be so nice with some love and attention to detail but it's a shame. We won't be back. Lovely breakfast at the garden centre down the road and a decent bus service into York.
Just had a lovely weekend here with 2 friends. A friend booked the 1 bed cottage for us but they upgraded us to the 2 bed. Lovely and cost, comfy beds, we nearly mastered how to keep the log fire going.very relaxing stay would definitely stay again.
Room was lovely only would of rated more if wasn't so cold when we got in there took agers to warm up room it's self was nice. The lady seemed quite rude when speaking to us spoke to us in a patronising way also told us to come at 5 instead of check in time location lovely...
Good and handy location. Unfortunately, the room that I was in, wasn't very clean. The bedside table and lamp surfaces, were covered in dust and grime. The cups provided for hot drinks, had been used previously but not cleaned. And one cup had been left in the bathroom. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed.
It was ok, it was clean and handy for buses but I would not be going back there. And I would not advise anyone with children to book into it. It was very cold and not enough sticks were provided to start the fire. 2 electric heaters were provided, in the small cottage but it’s not enough to heat the place up, there was another heater in the hallway but it was locked at 7 degrees so there was no heat coming out of that. It seemed to be controlled by a smart meter but not sure who operated the smart meter. I had 2 children with me and thankfully I had read the reviews prior to coming so I new to bring warm clothing just in case the comments about how cold the place was were true. I paid £117 a night and stayed a 2 nights £226 in total. When you walked in the small cottage there was rules printed on pieces of paper and they were set on the fridge door, and on the table. They were asking us to empty the bins, take the rubbish out, empty the sanitary bins in the bathroom and bleach the toilet before we left. Which I had no problem doing but for £117 a night I would expect that they would’ve done this themselves. We had to go out and buy our own toilet paper as not was provided. The bed needs to be replaced the headboard squeaks anytime you turned in bed. The walls are paper thin which meant we heard everyone from the adjacent cottages come in and out. The place has a lot of potential but the people running it would need to make some serious improvements, especially where the heating is concerned.
