Our first trip to Thirsk and across the road from our hotel was this Chop shop. Yorkshire chip shops have a good name, so gave it a try. We did enjoy it although I would not give it 5 stars it was ok. Fish was nice a bit too much batter for me. Staff very friendly and nice. Not much seating area, but benches outside.

It's my favourite venue and our "go to" Fish & Chip restaurant in Thirsk Visited today on a motorcycle ride out with a pal today and opted for the restaurant upstairs Service was superb .. attentive without being intrusive The food .. hot .. freshly fried as always Then there's the little things that matter .. the plate had been warmed .. the peas were piping hot, again the serving bowl was heated to ensure they stayed hot

Really beautiful fish, amazing mushy peas and lovely gravy. Chips are perfectly acceptable, could maybe do with a little longer in the fryer but still very nice. Fish and potato cake could do with more fish but again very tasty as is. Was glad we took the advice of the lady walking past, would 100% go back. Oh and you get a lovely strong brew too. Perfect.

I came here a year ago and it was 5 stars across the board. This time it was very disappointing. The chips tasted odd, perhaps it was the potato variety, and the plate was very greasy. The fish was ok but last time it was excellent. My 3 year old granddaughter who at 2 years old had eaten practically all of a child’s fish only managed a couple of bites this time. So to sum up; if there’s nothing else try this place and you might be lucky otherwise don’t as you might get a not so good day.
