Out of the 3 student accommodations recommended by Durham, this location has had the most recent renovation as of the time I am writing my review. If you also believed this is a good sign, I am here to tell you the complete opposite. As was confessed to me by many staff who work(ed) here (whom I won't name due to privacy reasons). Due to the rushed renovations, many of the rooms here suffer from quality issues including the room I stayed in. The hot water went out multiple times during my 8 month stay and I have been appalled at how the situation was handled by the manager at the time, Claire Begley. Every time I tried to email her for accountability reasons e.g to promise me a timeframe the issues would be fixed in, or to ask for compensation. These such question were avoided in her replies to my emails. I had to confront her on the phone and in person to get some more answers, and she still wasn't able to make promises. Is it really that hard to get the hot water to work for a paying tenant's 8 months stay at a newly renovated place of accommodation with "brand new hot water boilers"? I understand if issues happen 1 or 2 times during my entire stay and last a day or two, but more than 10 occasions of the hot water not working accumulating to over a month long is completely absurd and demonstrates how poorly this situation was managed by Endeavour Court. Never have I ever lived at a place of accommodation for an extended period of time have I ever experienced such frequent disruptions of the included utilities when I have already paid my rent IN FULL. You may be led to believe this is one bad experience however this is completely not true. The other two rooms on my floor experienced the same issues since we shared 1 boiler. Furthermore, another building had their rooms flooded due to burst pipes. You may wonder why those reviews haven't been posted and I think it's because many people including myself are too tired of the nonsense we have put up with at Endeavour Court and aren't bothered to write a review because look at how much I have already written. Many others have told me they haven't received compensation even though their rooms were flooded. I was lucky to receive only 200 pounds in compensation due to my 8 months of trouble, which still haven't been transferred to me after many months, despite Claire saying it has already been transferred. This in my opinion is not a small amount of money, but is not enough to reflect the great inconveniences and the unacceptable timeframes for repair which Claire Begley has quoted me, and on many occasions wasn't able to deliver. The fundamental issue I believe exists with the management at Endeavour Court is 1) Maintenance can't be done on weekends, and 2) All 'decisive' decisions have to be made by the manager (Claire Begley) who "can't be contacted during weekends" or during their "time off", even though they absolutely should be held accountable for not making good on their promises, and should absolutely be upholding the stated contracts statement that maintenance issues should be fixed ASAP regardless of working hours. The only reason I haven't given a review of lower than 1 stars even though I've stayed at hotels rated 1 star and were even better than Endeavour Court, is because the staff are actually friendly and most of them were very understanding of my enormous frustration at how poorly the manager handled the 'fixing' of my hot water. All in all, if having hot water during the freezing British winter is important to you I wish you the best of luck! If the manager is still the same person, don't expect for your emails to be answered in full nor for you to relieve your deposit back after the quoted 10 days, and definitely don't expect to receive compensation until you make it your absolute mission to make sure Endeavour Court is held accountable. The best advice I can give to anyone staying here is to keep your expectations as low as possible.
It was a great experience. The staff Claire, Mille, Jonathan, Dave, Nas. Are all great! The rooms and kitchen are all modern. I enjoyed my time here.
The rooms and kitchen are modern and new. The games room is a great place to socialize and the study room is quiet. However you have to pay for laundry £4-£6 depending on your preference, which is inconvenient because students pay around £230 pounds are week and having to still pay laundry is very unreasonable considering the amount students are paying it should be included in that mouth because realistically speaking £230 pounds is a lot of money and other accommodations offer laundry included for less. At times they take days or weeks to resolve simple maintenance problems and don’t even say sorry about it. I wouldn’t advise if you don’t want to pay for laundry as an extra cost to rent which the rent is already a lot. They have a few studios and all shared flats are 6-7 people which is inconvenient for people that don’t want to share a kitchen with a lot of people, on the website it says sold out for selection for less flatmates but it’s all 6-7 rooms per flat.
