Thornhill Parish Church

What a beautiful area! We drove here looking for graves relating to the Whitaker family, and while we didn't find any, we had a marvelous time exploring the site. Like others have mentioned, parking is very limited, just a sliver in front of the church, so I'd plan to walk here if possible. Wheelchair accessibility is good, with my wife being able to navigate the vast majority of the grounds and around the outside of the church. As you'll see in the pictures, it's on a bit of a slope, but not too bad. Graves are for the most part visible and clean of debris, and while you can't always make out the words, you can see the enormous variety of markers that stretch back centuries. Part of the interesting aspects of this place (unlike the US), a lot of the foot paths were actual markers with names, dates, and inscriptions. We learned later these aren't the actual graves, just markers, but it did make for a more reflective time.

One of The Thousand. - a well maintained and very active church. Lots going on inside and great grounds. Some say this is the best thing in Dewsbury.

What a beautiful church, there’s no easy parking for it, but plenty up at the park car park. The grounds are so beautiful, with so many amazing parts of architecture to this building and some great history. Can’t wait till things can open up again and I can visit inside this beautiful church 🥰💕

The church was lovely and warm and looked beautiful for Christmas. The vicar and helpers were so welcoming.. The Christening service was the nicest iv ever been to and everyone else said the same. What a lovely afternoon we will always remember. 4/12/22
