I'm originally from Salop, lived in Leeds 20+ years. Moved to Wakefield a few years back. I can honesty say this is one of the best pubs I've set foot in. The regulars are friendly and offer great conversation. The interior is warm, traditional and in keeping with a what a pub should be. No screens! Just decent music through the speakers. The ale/beer is well kept and fairly priced. The Tetleys tastes great. This is a gem of a pub!

A traditional old boozer which regrettably has its lease up for sale. 6 cask ales on including the fantastic Oakham Citra which appears to be a regular. Gents toilets down some steep steps in the cellar. Great view of the cathedral from the back door.

Fantastic little boozer. Lovely bar staff and friendly locals. I pray these types of pub stay open for years to come, as they really are class 👌🏼

Excellent largely unspoilt old Melbourne Brewery house about 8 minutes walk from Wakefield Westgate railway station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I visited including a porter. The pub which was opened in 1842 is a grade II listed building. There is a blue plaque for Archbishop John Potter who grew up here when it was a draper's shop

Fantastic pub, ales kept and poured very well by the knowledgeable and artisan staff. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the timing involved to pour the perfect pint of tetleys original. I tried the Godiva, citra and proper job, and they were all perfect.
