Rivas Restaurant

This is a great little Persian restaurant run by a friendly couple. All the food was enjoyable, particularly the kashk bademjan, the delicious off-menu ghormeh sabzi (see photo) and the baklava, which was flavoursome and not too sweet. Not to be missed if you’re in the area.

This place is a true hidden gem; easily Wakefield’s best-kept secret. Its low-profile nature is actually one of its greatest strengths, as it allows for genuinely attentive and almost exclusive service. The owner is very hands-on, which really shows in both the atmosphere and the quality of the food. The cuisine is as close to the authentic experience as you can get; and I say this with confidence as I have Iranian family members and know the flavours well. Everything is freshly cooked, halal, and served in generous portions. The seating is comfortable and well thought out; perfect for a relaxed meal with friends, and equally suitable for a family outing. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the level of service. I would highly recommend the slow-cooked lamb shank and the chelow kebab. To finish, ask for the Turkish coffee; it is the perfect ending to a superb meal.

My friend and I missed the 5:33pm train to Manchester. To kill the time waiting for the 6:33pm train, we searched the restaurant nearby to have a quick dinner. Rivas is such a delight for us. We were wowed by the elegant decorations, joyful music, and the warm welcome, then the delicious food presented beautifully in front of us, finally the lovely dessert to die for. I will come back again with other fiends.
