Calder Vets Wakefield money over morals Calder Vets Wakefield nearly cost my bulldog his leg due to incorrect diagnosis and a failure to spot an infection.
Sent home with steroids, because the veterinarian had a fear of prescribing antibiotics. To then call back the following day with some concerns about the meds not working and the swelling increasing, to be told to give the medication time to work. To then trust my instinct and visit the out of hours surgery to be told he can’t be seen unless I pay £180, for them to tell me less that 24hrs from our first appointment to stop the steroids because he has a severe infection and he may lose his leg. To then develop a hole in his leg, which resulted in a 7 inch open wound exposing bone and muscle. Following a veterinarian failing to inform us that the skin around it was dead and it would fall off, but we can keep it clean by putting him in the shower to wash away the bacteria (all 28kg of him every 3 hours, forget hibiscrub).
Thankfully, following a change of vets,
a cancelled holiday,
2 weeks off work,
4 courses of antibiotics (although the first veterinarian was scared to prescribe which allowed the infection to spread rapidly)
the practice did attempt to make an apology which was quickly retracted when she stated that the treatment Buck received was excellent. Not by the first or third veterinarian, only the second!!

Just do your mental health and your fur baby a favour and avoid this particular practice because my mental health is still suffering.

Needless to say our complaint journey continues…

I took my cat to be checked after he had come home with an injury. The lady vet was brilliant with him. I had to take him back after he developed a lump and saw the same vet. Again she was wonderful with him and totally put me at ease. The ladies on reception also great, so kind and caring towards everyone. Thank you all so much for looking after my boy so well.
