Here’s our list of favourite East Riding of Yorkshire walks to do in these winter months.

Canal Head, Pocklington

A 7.4-mile walk along the Pocklington Canal. Wildlife is abundant year-round but in the winter months you may be able to spot a barn owl or wintering wildfowl.

Pocklington – Tour the Town

On this simple 1-mile stroll around Pocklington you can use an app to discover this market town’s heritage and history. The route is a perfect winter outing for an individual or a family and is wheelchair and pram accessible.

Burton Agnes Circular

A 7.5-mile triangular trek that is pleasant yet challenging at any time of year. The route takes you between three historic points in the scenic Yorkshire Wolds: Beck Head in Kilham, Drummer’s Well in Harpham and Burton Agnes Manor House.

Driffield Canal

Along this circular 7-mile route you can learn all about the industrial revolution era and it’s local impact. The canal has been recently restored and so is an excellent walk in colder and wet weather seasons.

Beverley and the Westwood

This 6-mile walk through Beverley and the Westwood incorporates views of the Beverley Minster and a peaceful stroll through Westwood Pasture.

Sledmere House

Now that Sledmere House is open for the 2022 season, this walk around the gardens is perfect. The beautiful grounds were designed by Capability Brown and this amazing Georgian period property has over 1000 acres for you to explore.

Thixendale, Wharram Percy and the Yorkshire Wolds

An 8-mile route from the Village of Thixendale through the Yorkshire Wolds. The route also passes through Wharram Percy, a deserted medieval village that was abandoned in the 15th Century to make way for sheep pastures.

Hornsea Mere

Hornsea Mere is a 2 mile long walk along the largest freshwater lake in the region. In colder seasons, the lake is a haven for freshwater fish and birds such as tufted ducks and goldeyes. The route is interspersed with woodland along the way and there’s an excellent café to top it all off and warm up.
