Went here hoping for a hobbit style interior or at least something wizard-y or enchanting. Literally nothing to do with Tolkien or Middle Earth at all, apart from the Gollum sign outside. The jarring disappointment made the interior feel even more bland and charmless than it already was. Broken TV playing pop music to boot. Told to sit down and our orders will be taken from the table. No menu or wine list appeared so we asked for a cocktail from the sign above the bar, just an Aperol Spritz - "no, we don't do those." I see a Coke Zero sign above the window so ask for one. "No sorry, we've got diet Coke?" I settled for soda water. Positives - clean, efficient.
We stayed here last night. What a lovely place. The room was spotless, bedding lovely and cosy, bed comfortable, warm, shower nice and hot. There was a hairdryer in the room, dressing gowns and slippers. Towels and flannels provided aswell as a range of shower gels, creams, tea and coffee and porridge etc for the morning. What more can you ask for? The only thing is if you can’t do steps you would struggle to get to the room I believe. The pub was lovely too, the bar staff offer table service. I don’t believe they do food, hence not rated for food.
Service was good, but it's kinda weird to go into a pub and be taken away from the bar and told to sit down opposite people who are watching the TV above your head. Just, wouldn't choose to sit myself under a pub TV if I had a choice - and, I like to see what's on tap at a bar. When the member of staff serving us came around, they were very friendly but didn't read out drinks I could read on the taps from where I was sat, just a lot of brand names... When we both mentioned the drinks on tap we could see, the staff member said "oh yeah, we do that as well" rather than telling us if it was a pale ale, bitter, etc. If I was up at the bar I'd be able to choose that, or maybe even something else that appealed, that I couldn't see... Left after one drink.
Called in for a drink on Sunday afternoon pleasant dog friendly pub with waitress service i thought it was a great place very reasonable prices
It's a friendly pub, spacious, clean and comfortable. There's a good selection of fine ales and lagers..and food is available, but I haven't eaten there yet. There is a living coal fire, lit in the winter, giving that old world ambience. It's dog friendly too.
