Established in Whitby since 1968, Royal Fisheries is a family-run traditional fish and chip shop and café in a town world-famous for fish and chips!
The Fusco family started producing fish & chips in the 1950s in Pickering, North Yorkshire. In 1968 they moved to Whitby and bought the Royal Fisheries.
Since then the business has been very successful, producing top quality fish & chips from the finest ingredients. Very high grade fresh fish, bought locally whenever possible, is always used. Top quality potatoes are sourced for the preparation of our trade-mark crinkle-cut chips.

Called in this afternoon, 13th January. I have severe allergies to dairy and egg, I called to checked ingredients in the batter the day before and everything was fine. The batter is delicious, just as it should be for proper fish and chips. We all had Fish and chips and they were fantastic, and proper mushy peas, all was great value and the young man in the resteraunt were first class. I do prefer my haddock with skin off so today I hit jackpot as there was no skin, yippee. Loved the crinkle chips too We will definitely return
Came here after seeing a recommendation on social media. Absolutely brilliant and an absolute hidden gem! The service was so quick and absolutely perfect, the food came so quickly and it was cooked to perfection. The best chips in Whitby for sure! And absolutely amazing experience overall. The staff were all so friendly and polite!
We have been eating in here for years with our young family. Food is consistently good and we love the crinkle cut chips. Fish is always fresh. One gripe this time was the menu changes around kids meals. There is no kids fish and chips. No cod bites. And it really annoyed us. Why? Well, instead, the choice is a frozen fish finger, chicken bites or a sausage. My kids want fish and chips in a chippy. Pay for an adult portion I hear the owners say! No - I want to pay a fair price to feed my kids with a piece of your fresh fish. Instead we paid £14.50 ish for my 7 year old’s meal so she could have fish. Surely there’s a way around it!
Absolutely blown away by this place—some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The batter was golden, crisp, and full of flavour, but what really sent it over the edge were the battered bits—call them what you want: scraps, scrapings, or crispy heaven—they were next-level, honestly god-like! The portions were generous, the fish was fresh and flaky, and everything was piping hot. Big shoutout to Chris for the brilliant tips on how to dodge the cheeky seagulls—lifesaver! The restaurant is easy to access whether you’re eating in or grabbing takeaway, and the whole experience felt like a proper Whitby highlight. If you’re in Whitby and you’re not stopping here, you’re missing out. No joke—this is THE chip shop to visit. I’ll 100% be back, and I’ll be dreaming of those battered bits until then. Highly recommended!
Absolutely wow. Just the best fish and chips we've had. The Irish curry is a showstopper and the chips are addictive!! Would 100% return.
