Bothams of Whitby is a charming and historic spot that is especially worth visiting if you are a tourist. The building itself has a lot of character and its long-standing connection to Whitby’s history adds to the overall experience. Walking through the space, you can really feel the heritage, which makes it a unique location compared to other tea rooms. We visited for afternoon tea. While the food itself was fairly average and nothing particularly stood out in terms of flavour or presentation, the experience still captures the traditional charm and flair of an English afternoon tea. The setting, the historic atmosphere, and the small touches throughout the room help make it feel special. Overall, Bothams of Whitby is more about the history and experience than the food itself. It is a nice place to spend an afternoon, enjoy a classic tea tradition, and soak in a piece of Whitby’s heritage.
Lovely place however just a shame we didn't get served. Me and my partner waited 25-30 minutes to get to the front and I can appreciate they were busy however, for us to not be served and for what seems to be the regulars put first seems a little bit poor. Everyone behind us got served first yet no one asked if we'd been served or not which to me that would be common courtesy regardless of the answer. Such a shame the service was poor as would have loved to try the food they had to offer. If you're wanting quick service or to be served at all I wouldn't recommend the bakery.
A very traditional experience! We came here for breakfast and were very impressed with how large the selection of food was. I highly recommend the fruit scones and the hot chocolate, they were delicious! We had a lovely meal and were pleased that it was priced very fairly. The decor was very traditional for tearooms and looks as if not much has changed in the past 50 years! Although this is not to everyone’s taste, our group really enjoyed it! The staff were also lovely and greeted us with a big smile. It was overall, a great experience!
Just called in and bought 2 small pork pies. They were superb, not normal sausage meat but actually pork. We were only visiting Whitby, if like pork pies I can certainly recommend this bakery. 👍
An unfortunate first experience at Botham's Tearooms to celebrate my mother's birthday. We preordered the Botham's afternoon tea via telephone days prior. The afternoon tea that was discussed to us was mistakenly The Yorkshire afternoon tea. This caused slight confusion. Nonetheless we waited, and waited and 40 minutes had passed before we eventually received our order. I was accompanied by my two young boys and as you can imagine they lack any sort of patience. The afternoon tea itself was delicious however we had drank our pot of tea before it had even arrived. There was also a very large queue of elderly customers that wished to be seated. I'd suggest in future that tables are on a prebook basis. I'd like to enjoy my food without feeling pressured or bombarded by the sheer magnitude of customers. Finally, on receipt of our bill I noticed that the prices did not correlate to those on their website menu. We were charged £15.25 per person and not £14.95 as shown on the website. I was told that they would not honor the price stated online. This will need to be updated. To conclude, the Tearooms were not well managed and sadly I will not be returning. It was not the experience we'd hoped to receive.
