Holman's Book Shop

Went in here to just look and ended up finding the perfect gift for my son here(toy cat). Not a massive shop, but reasonable selection and friendly staff.

I've visited and bought from this shop every time I've been in Whitby, but I don't really know why...? The prices are very reasonable - there is no denying that, and for such a small shop, they have a nice selection of different items, BUT the staff are very, very unfriendly and that has been with every visit. I feel there is a definite insincerity when they respond to a thank you. I like to give my business to small businesses and it is close to where we stay when we visit, but I just don't find the staff remotely pleasant. I was brought up to always show manners and be polite. I know dealing with the public can be tasking - anyone who's worked in retail or public facing roles knows that - but I also appreciate good customer service. It's very difficult to say anything else about the shop, but I just wish they were more pleasant. I don't think it's asking too much.

Shop split into 3 levels: Lower ground floor consists of greetings cards, gift bags that sort of thing. Ground floor is stationary, newspapers, sweets, cold drinks, cigarettes, books, pens and everything with toys, jigsaws and books upstairs.

Lovely shop, if you are a keen jigsaw puzzles fan then this is the place to go.

Wonderful little shop with loads of unusual toys, jigsaws and stationary, cards etc, as well as being a newsagents. Very obliging staff.
