I took a chance ordering online from this store and unfortunately it was the wrong decision. Although the product choice and prices were fantastic, the item I received was completely different to that described and also had brown staining on it. Definitely more care and attention needed while fulfilling online orders, unfortunately won't be ordering from here in the future and based on my experience would not recommend to others.
I was in the shop yesterday, 17/5/25 and was about ask to try on & likely purchase a couple of T-shirts when another browsing customer said thank you and left. One of the lady store assistants said thank you but a male who was speaking to them said "Yeah, thank you for not buying anything!" I don't know if he was connected to the store but the lady he was speaking to laughed. Completely put me off buying anything again having previously bought a number of items there.
Tried to buy a cap in this shop today. Asked a male assistant if I cud stand with my 2 clean, dry, coiffed poodles in the doorway so I could advise husband. All good till miserable lady assistant arrived asking if the dogs were dry (not rained for ages) & said the shop was shutting! We explained that we were about to buy a £40 hat & similar scarf but her attitude persisted & we left, disappointed & surprised. Not sure who owns this shop but they need a rethink here.
What on earth has happened to this shop? Last year I bought a Barbour Duke, the young lady who served me knew exactly what I wanted, style, colour, size, perfect. Called in on 18th May and the (older) Lady did not have a clue. "I'm looking for a Barbour quilted jacket, a Shoveler or similar" I could have been speaking Chinese, showed me a couple of jackets, which were not quilted, one wasn't even a Barbour. My wife is interested in a beadnell but we did'nt bother, just left. Won't try again.
Brought a Jacket on my visit to the beautiful Whitby, unfortunately I thought was buying a black jacket, found out later that day it was blue when I got back to the accommodation, so I returned it explaining I had brought it by error. I took the jacket back the next day and was refused a refund, and only offered a credit note, or exchange (didn't live local, and I didn't see anything else in the store) so neither was an option for me. My opinion is that the owner didn't give great customer service, when he could of being the owner of the store (at least he said he was) he stuck to his poor signage stating his returns policy (one poor A4 sign on the wall, next to something he called a till area), No returns policy on receipt neither (poor communication). I pleaded with the owner to change his mind, under the circumstances and give good customer satisfaction and service, but he stood there with a smug look on his face and stuck to his returns policy. Independent stores like this need customers coming back, whether that be the following week, or the following year to survive the increasingly hard retail market in the UK. The owner said he was part of a franchise, but could only find his store online, and no sign of any other store with the same branding. Customer service goes a long way, and sometimes rules are meant to be broken to achieve this. As the jacket was a sales item, the owner should of stated this when I made the purchase, but he failed to do so. When we challenged him on this, his reply was "I can't tell everyone that, I would be saying it all day" well unfortunately that is part of the job, it's also part of good customer service and good communications! An experience like this puts me off buying from small independent stores, the very stores that need people buying from them. I know I wouldn't of had the same problem in a larger brand store as the customer service levels are much higher, and good customer service comes with understanding the customers needs, and if this means breaking the rules under certain circumstances then this is what is done, I know this as I worked in the retail sector for over 10 years. What the owner didn't know is that I had been coming to area for years, and that I had previously purchased items from his store on my last three to four visits. I won't be going back next year, I will shop elsewhere.
