Discovery House

The location of the apartment is good. The towns centre can be quickly reached by foot. We booked a room with a balcony. Online the photos showed sea view and the Whitby abbey. Upon arrival we noticed this view you only have if being on the balcony and turning to the right. The balcony faces a car park, which is also your window view when lying on the bed. The bedroom itself was okay. It could have been a bit cleaner. The pillows were plastic wrapped into sheets. The shower and bathroom had a good size. However, the floor felt cheap. Like a thin plastic sheet as if it was a camper van bathroom. Something we absolutely hated was that the shower tap was OUTSIDE OF THE BATHROOM on the bedroom wall. In addition to that the water temperature did not stay constant. This meant not only did we have to leave the bathroom door open while showering, we also needed to go in and out of the bathroom several times while showering to correct the water temperature.

Stayed with couples friends for a weekend away. Instantly as soon as we first walked through the door we were met with the overwhelming stench of urine throughout the room. We called the ‘helpline’ immediately after entering, where a voicemail was left as no one picked up. I later got a call back from someone who had no idea where I was staying, but eventually said that someone will be around to clean this the next day. Inevitably this issue was not resolved at all. Room was very small and overlooking a car park. Pubic hair was visible and mould had covered the bathroom (which was recent and could have been cleaned). Cleanliness of the room was sub standard, and if I could give minus marks I would. Only redeeming factor was the location to the town. Will definitely not be staying here again, and would encourage this for anyone else looking to stay.

Last minute order, I got a loft with £45. But something needs to be improved: the toilet lamp is too weak, without hot shower (or only too limited with not enough hot water for shower) I have to turn on the TV for connecting WiFi.

Cheap and cheerful rooms. Cleanliness could have been better, but cheap for the centre of Whitby.

The apartment we stayed was in an ideal location. It's got everything you need. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We have stayed here on numerous occasions, unfortunately the last time we stayed someone had been in painting, it was still wet, it was gloss and the smell was intense. They couldn't move us and it was too late to find somewhere else. This didn't spoil the visit to where we were but wasn't pleasant in the room.
