Very interesting museum. Two adults with gift aid was £22. 4 floors of information and things to see. Staff are helpful and friendly. Gift shop is good too.
Great little museum. Not just on Captain Cook, had interesting historical facts on navigation, medicine etc too. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.
Very interesting museum with lots of information to read across three floor levels in a house in which captain Cook once resided during his stays in Whitby. Definitely worth a visit. Especially for people who are interested in seafaring.
ok im a bit bias but I love anything Captain Cook he's an amazing piece of Australian history in colonisation...im not going to debate the rights or the wrongs because it's history and we can not change it ...if you take everything out of it he was an amazing seamen in his time ...this a small museum and Whitby is an absolutely beautiful little town to visit as well if your there check it out ...there is or maybe was a replica Endeavour in the bay as well that was for sale so not sure its still there . definitely work a look but sadly a floating restaurant
When the 17 year old James Cook first came to Whitby to learn to be a seaman, he lodged in this well preserved 17th century house. There's many maps and documents covering Cook's life and voyages. It's also interesting to see what the home of a Quaker family was like. The attic is where the apprentices slept. The scientific knowledge and discovery of thousands of previously unknown flora and fauna species, as well as encountering new peoples, is fascinating and very well presented. The whole museum is excellent, good value and well worth visiting.
