It's one of them brilliant galleries where you wish you had more money to spend! Every where you look, there are pieces of great beauty and eloquence. There is a focus on the East Coast of Yorkshire, but, is there anywhere else in the world with more natural beauty? If there is, I'm yet to see it. I love Michael Salt's work and Janine, the proprietor knows her artist's and offers just the right amount of curatorship. It's the best shop in Whitby by far!
The work draws you in (they do have some lovely work), but the owners make you rapidly leave! I have never met such rude people so disinterested in doing the best for the artists they represent.
What a great find. We were in Whitby for a week in July 2021 and wandered past this place when several paintings, prints & photos caught my eye. Not your usual, bog standard art works either. We ended up buying an impressive looking black & white, framed photo of the abbey, as well as a Shirley Fletcher print (I really wanted the original oil painting but it had been sold. Probably just as well as the clown freaks my wife out a little even without all that added texture).
Purchased a gingerbread Dracula it would have been rude not to . Gingacula is on the tree .Reading room art is tremendous
Beautiful glass pieces.sorry I couldn't buy more on my brief visit there. Ty for opening at very difficult time and hope your business continues Wen this
