Using this spot as most of my scenery photos were taken from the coast here, the surrounding bays, beaches or hilltops! My first trip to Whitby, what did I make of it? Well, for the time of year, busy! Be prepared for crowds, queues and a handful of rude folk with little-to-no manners or the ability to use an ounce of common sense. However, it's a beautiful part of the world and would recommend visiting. The 199 steps, the Abbey, the walks; if you can do them, do them! Well worth the stunning views when you reach the top and peer down to the beaches and shoreline. Would I come again? I would, but perhaps for a weekend or couple of days rather than a weeks' stay next time.
A peaceful spot to visit with lovely views of the harbour and coastline. It’s a nice place for a walk, especially in good weather, and a great spot to take photos while enjoying the sea breeze.
There are two breakwaters built each with a lighthouse at the end. The east breakwater lighthouse was built in 1855, and the West Harbour Lighthouse in 1835. The channel in Whitby Harbour is maintained, where possible, at a depth of 1.4 meters below chart datum. Private moorings on pontoons below Spital Bridge are maintained at 1.5 meters, and at Eskside and Endeavour Wharf, the depths are 1.5 meters and 2 meters respectively. The Fish Quay is also maintained at a depth of 2 meters
Beautiful walk after visiting the Abbey. Watch the ships sail in and out of the harbour. Great place to fish if you remember to bring your rod. Cod, sole, and whiting.
Lovley walk along the pier, great place to bring dogs. Great for appreciating the docks of Whitby either by yourself or with a friend. I appreciate the great view of the rest of the town from the pier (shown in picture), it really demonstrated to me how quaint Whitby is.
