The Viking Loom

Description

Welcome to the Viking Loom – a long established independent craft based business where we pride ourselves on having staff that have experience in a wide range of techniques so are able to help and advise you in your chosen project. We want you to find a place for handicrafts in your lives and hope to inspire you, be it in the shop just a stone’s throw from the historic Minster or online, where you will find a sample of products that are available in the shop. We can’t fit everything on our website and so a visit to the shop really is a must. There are FOUR rooms for you to browse through and we think you will find it very hard to leave empty handed!

We stock an eclectic mix of products, embracing quality, colour, shape, texture and variety that will amaze and inspire you to get creative. Choose from out massive range of 100% cotton fabrics for quilting and also suitable for dress making - new designs are arriving regularly.

Our needlework range is really quite outstanding - linen, Aida and canvas for embroidery, cross stitch and tapestry in as many colours as we can find. Our range of stranded DMC and Anchor threads are supported by cotton perle, variegated threads, silks and rayon’s. We sell beginner kits in all sorts of style to encourage a new generation of stitchers, plus silk gauze, linen twill and wool blanket for the more adventurous stitcher. We have an ever changing stock of cross stitch and tapestry kits. You really should take a look at our own range of York cross stitch kits to commemorate your visit. We offer a very competitive framing and making up service for pictures, cushions and bell pulls – please ask for details or take a look at our website for current prices.

In addition to fabric we source first quality beads from Europe and create our own range of exclusive signature mixes which work really well in jewellery and are great for embellishment. Our complimenting range of smaller beads and crystals are the perfect way to add sparkle to your knitting and sewing projects. Our beads are supported by a fantastic range of well tried and tested clasps, wires, threads and tools.

Come in, rummage and find something to absorb you. We run plenty of classes and workshops so learn a new art or improve your existing hobby with help and advice from our fantastic tutors. If you are searching for something elusive, let us know. We love a challenge and are more than happy to source products for you, and we offer a worldwide postal service so are able to send goods on to you.

We host a range of one day workshops and weekly classes on a wide range of crafting topics. Be it crewel work, quilting, applique, embroidery, canvas work, beading and felting, we are sure that there will be a class that will tempt you to join. Our classes are held just on the outskirts of York, not at the shop. There is ample FREE parking onsite and the classes are held on the first floor of a converted barn. If you are attending a full day class, you will be treated to coffee with homemade biscuits mid morning and tea with cakes in the afternoon!

If you are part of a group visiting York, we may even be able to host a class exclusively for you! Get in touch with the dates you are in the city and we will do our best to accommodate you.
