Visited! Ticked of my bucket list. Be careful its on a main road. Park vehicle fully on the grass verge (to be safe).
The Greenwich Meridian marker near Withernsea is the most northerly Meridian marker in the UK. It is a good place to stop for a photo opportunity, but it is very easy to miss as you drive along the road. There is another Meridian marker south of this one on the B1445 between patrington and welwick, that one has a marker stone next to it, showing the exact point of 0 degrees.
Time... Healer of wounds, harbinger of death. Our greatest enemy yet sole force for vital change. Here, nestled in the shadow of a three-phase electricity pole, is where everything starts anew. To the East, our past. All that became us: Ancestral memories in the middle-distant haze; pre-human forms far over the horizon, residing as unconscious wisps deep within our genes. To the West, the future. Endless opportunity, myriad paths to choose and be chosen. Take a breath, fill your nose with the scent of ill winds and bountiful harvest. Here we straddle the infinite present. Stand on this very point and witness the tempestuous seconds, decades and aeons stretching either way along the B1362. No cafe or gift shop. Minus one star.
