St Denys's Church is a grade 1 listed building. St Denys is featured in the 15th century east window. The mediaeval Staind glass windows are some of the oldest in York. The church was rebuilt in 1798 and altered in the 1800s. Parts of the church are Norman, and it is thought it was built on the site of a Roman temple. The Spire was removed after being hit by Canon, and lightning and damaged by a storm in the 1700s Services are at 10 am on Sundays.

Delightful and very ancient church which is usually open. The stained glass is even older than that in the Minster and quite exquisite.

So much history was private Chapel for the Earls of Northumberland. For the palace which was situated opposite until the peasants revolt Royalty were there often !
