Was a great place to sit and work from for a few hours. Initially I wasnin the cafe with a drink and muffin. Nice to see the library being sitting well used and so buzzing with activity; older ones together knitting, young children chatting and laughing, some support sessions taking place etc Then upstairs there is a quiet area which is more of a traditional library space where people are reading and working quietly. Some interesting displays of artifacts and information. It was very busy and seating was limited come the afternoon. The WiFi is free but kept coming and going on my device. Toilets needed more regular checking and cleaning.
I popped into York Library during Storm Amy, hoping to sit and dry out whilst I got lost in a book. It’s a lovely building , well set out, light and airy with a very relaxed atmosphere. It was a lovely surprise to discover that they have a cafe! I had a very good cuppa and piece of Rocky Road whilst I looked around. There are lots of computers in addition to the books and the children’s section flows on from the cafe and includes a play table and comfortable low level seating. The staff are warm and welcoming. If you want a cuppa and prefer to avoid the tourist traps head to the library and support their cafe.
I love coming here. It's such a haven of peace in busy York. The cafe is great and the staff are all helpful and lovely. Browse the bookshelves and find something surprising (not dished up by an algorithm).
I wanted to use the printer and I wasn’t sure how to do it as I am visiting the city. The staff were not helpful to me and just pointed to the board to say email that and I said I’d already followed the instructions. However she wasn’t customer conscious towards me or my needs and just left me to do it on my own. I wasn’t impressed and ended up sorting it out myself.
Good selection of books and an archive on the first floor. Cafe located on the ground floor as well. Free entry into a beautiful historic building.
