University of York - Halifax College

As a Masters student who stayed in Ainsty Court, it’s a lovely place to live. Cleaners always came on time, people were friendly, and it’s been an overall good experience. However, they have recently closed down Halifax reception (this is useful to know) so you’d have to walk quite a bit to the other reception (for parcels etc). Laundry is a bit pricey, but it’s a similar amount at most universities. Good luck to anyone moving in!

Dreadful accommodation, the worst I have ever experienced in my academic career. Silverfish everywhere, appliances are not fixed even after multiple requests to maintenance, rude maintenance staff constantly in and out of rooms and jobs being left half done, meaning I couldn't use the kitchen at some points. No shops or a reception, all been taken away. All complaints have fallen on deaf ears. According to the Student Union, some students arrived to the hall this year to find their rooms were not ready and were displaced. Would not recommend.

Lovely college with a warm committee, Located on a beautiful lush green landscape sharing houses with residential boundaries. The laundry is big , JJs the communal area is everyone's jam place, overall a very good place only downside is it's isolated from rest of the University colleges but very close 22acres. My home for 2 yrs...!

Heavy construction is ongoing as of June 25, 2025. Mobile offices have been installed in containers. Parking bays have been cancelled. Lawrence Court is undergoing a significant facelift.

Its a safe accomodation. The management is helpful. There are a lot of facilities for students like reading room, JJ's common room, 22 acres, etc. Its all one needs for a happy living.
