The Golden Horse

I didn’t want to write this review as we’ve been going to Golden Horse for years and the staff are lovely, but the quality has noticeably declined and our last four orders have been disappointing. The food has been overcooked and mostly inedible, which is a shame given how good it used to be. The service at the counter has always been friendly and efficient, and we did raise our concerns over the phone after a recent order. Unfortunately, the response left us feeling disheartened after so many years as regular customers. It would have been nice to feel our feedback was more valued, particularly as loyal customers and the fact we’d never complained before. We kept giving it another chance based on many good past experiences, but something has clearly changed - whether that’s the chef/s, ingredients, or general standards, I don’t know. There are also a few hygiene concerns that have put us off. I’ve seen a pet dog wandering in and around the kitchen area and also handling food whilst unwell (albeit with a mask on) can be off putting for some. It’s a real shame to say that this was probably the last time we’ll return and I’d have sooner put this in an email if they had a public email/website. Thanks and best wishes, Ben

Best Chinese in york hands down! Would definitely recommend if your not sure, was very quick tasty and flavoursome, all sauses and stocks tasted homemade. Portions were a good size too so we have leftovers :)

The Golden Horse is quite frankly the best Chinese Takeaway in York… I’ve tried a lot of them, the food is like no other. Quality is amazing, service is incredibly fast, food order for 3-4 people can be ready within 10-20 minutes from ordering on the phone, perfect for a quick pick up. Customer service is brilliant, lovely workers happy to help every way they can. Highly recommended, always go to Golden Horse every time. Thank you

Incredible takeaway! Food is cooked to order and is perfection, packed full of taste and flavour. Quick turnaround and ran by a super friendly owner. There’s lots of info on arrival about paying cash and latest pricing so customers have all the info to make a choice - it’s a really hard time with cost of living for everyone, totally supportive and faultless communication. We’ll definitely be back, it’s the best takeaway we’ve had in York!
