Nothing special but that was the problem. Afternoon tea at the grand hotel should have been a really special experience. When we arrived we were very impressed. We were welcomed in a beautiful building by a staff member dressed in top hat and tails, then we were ushered into what felt like the beck room of the hotel for afternoon tea. The staff - not even neatly dressed anymore showed us to our table. We were congratulated on our "special occasion" but not once were we asked what that occasion was! The food was nice but not amazing, and we did wonder how long the sandwiches had been sat out for as some had started to dry out. The fruit scones had one sultana stuck on the side which actually made it look like a plain one that had a rogue sultana attached. We were offered water for the table and then charged (a lot) for it. Weird when tea and coffee were included - apparently not water! I could go on about the details that were lacking such as pips in the lemons, having to ask to have butter for the scones, water stained cutlery etc etc. If we had got this in a cafe for half the price we'd have been delighted, but it wasn't what we expected from a place such as this, and the very high price tag!

Afternoon tea at The Grand is always a delight. It is the best priced afternoon tea for quality that I have found so far. The waiting staff are always attentive. The food is always fresh and delicious and the menus are well thought out. Strongly recommend to anyone.

This place was truly incredible! Had an amazing evening here with workmates and partners. The rooms were very spacious and large! Serve was exemplary! The evening was very enjoyable, food was perfect, had the steak, blue and it was nice! Cocktails throughout the evening were awesome! Only one thing I'd say is that drinks did take a while to come out. Had breakfast in the morning and the eggs off the menu were amazing! You could have the usual full English from the counter, but I'm glad I ordered off the menu, which was included! Perfect evening!

Me and my wife visited on Father’s Day. We found the owners welcoming, the panini were hot and freshly made, and one of the best Tiramisu we’ve ever had. And we have had a few in our time. All this in delightful surroundings.
