Welcome to Yorkshire
Inspiration • December 1st, 2025
|If you’re looking for something truly magical to spark the festive season in East Yorkshire, Hull City Hall is hosting one of the standout Christmas events of the year. On Sunday 7 December 2025, Carrot Productions brings The Snowman to life with a full professional orchestra performing the score live as the film plays on the big screen. It’s a rare chance to watch a beloved Christmas classic in a completely immersive way, right in the heart of Hull.

This special family concert is a double bill too, featuring a brand-new animated version of Peter and the Wolf alongside the iconic story of the boy and his snowman.

A Festive Double Feature in Yorkshire
Everyone knows The Snowman—the shimmering animation, the soaring music, the unforgettable moment when the characters take flight. Seeing it accompanied by a live orchestra turns the familiar into something breathtaking. Howard Blake’s score fills the hall with astonishing detail and warmth, making the whole film feel more vivid and emotional.
The programme also includes a newly created animation of Peter and the Wolf, designed to introduce audiences to the orchestra in a fresh and engaging way. The new 2D animation by Georgian artist Tsotne Rusishvili brings the story to life for a new generation.
The Magic of Live Music in Hull City Hall
Hull City Hall is known for its beautiful acoustics, making it an ideal home for this concert. Musicians from world-class orchestras including the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata will be performing, surrounding the audience with rich, detailed sound.
Claire Elsdon, Theatre and Halls Manager, said:
“The Snowman is a beautiful film that has enchanted generations as has the fairytale Peter and the Wolf. The splendour of Hull City Hall is the perfect place to watch these timeless classics, coupled with a live orchestra, it’s going to be a truly magical experience.”
Local Young Talent Takes Centre Stage
Every performance of The Snowman includes a live performance of “Walking in the Air,” and for the Hull date, the soloists will be two talented young singers from the region: ten-year-old Emmie Wilson and twelve-year-old Jack Church.
It’s a huge moment for these rising stars and adds a lovely Yorkshire touch to the day.
Rachel Whibley, Managing Director of Carrot Productions, said:
“We can’t wait to bring our new production of Peter and the Wolf and the ever-loved The Snowman to Hull City Hall. There’s something truly special about sharing these beautiful stories with a live orchestra and young local singers; it’s an uplifting experience that captures everything we love about Christmas.”
More Than Just a Concert
At the end of each performance, audiences are invited to join in with Classic FM’s Big Christmas Chorus, singing “Walking in the Air” with the orchestra to raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise. It’s a joyful, communal moment that rounds off the experience beautifully.
