We stumbled across the museum as we crisscrossed around the UK and ended up spending more than 4 hours looking at and reading all about the history of trains in the UK. The displays are well set out with ample information provided for the trains on display. Some trains allow you climb up and into the engine/cab. It was disappointing that The Flying Scotsman was not on show and I believe it may have been hiding in the newly renovated sheds that were opening later in the week. The staff from the carpark, to reception/entry and those posted throughout the museum, were excellent in providing information when asked. Well worth a visit and great for kids as well as adults.

Only suitable car park for the Railway Museum. Unfortunately staff are useless as they let cars in even when car park is full. You have to play smart and plan. Follow leavers and reserve your space. Be patient. Usually will find a space within 10/15 mins. Expensive car park. Spaces are very tight so good luck with Door dings.

Very full when we arrived at around 1pm but had plenty of spaces a few hours later. Currently there are a lot of roadworks/construction on the roads near to the museum including the car park itself however there is still a clearly signposted pedestrian walkway. Costs £10 for the full day which is paid inside the museum.

Only one member of staff at the gate and was happily letting people into the car park. Did a loop and no spaces at all, we queued to leave and when it was our turn to leave, the guy gave us a flier for other car parks and we asked which one would be closest and he had no idea. We also asked why they were still letting cars in if it was full and he laughed and said he can’t put the sign out because he was talking to cars leaving the car park. Didn’t even get to go to the museum because of ability needs
