Food was great. I bought 2 rolls for £1 (very good price!! And a super rare occurrence in the UK in 2025) for my journey back from York, so didn’t immediately eat it while it was hot, but still tasted great!

Another of Thomas's outlets in York, the King's square shop offers the same range as the other bakeries it has. This includes a range of sweet & savoury pastries, hot and cold drinks, and sandwiches. I would recommend a visit here for a quick, affordable bite to eat.

A Mixed Bag at Thomas the Baker, York Located on a prime corner in York, Thomas the Baker is hard to miss, and because of it’s central location it naturally draws in a steady stream of customers, also judging by the frequent flow of visitors, it’s clear this bakery has earned its place as a local favorite. However, my visit left me with mixed feelings. While the shelves were brimming with traditional baked goods that many seemed to enjoy, I couldn’t help but feel let down by the lack of 😢gluten-free options😢. In an era where dietary inclusivity is becoming the standard, it’s surprising—and frankly disappointing—that a bakery of this stature hasn’t embraced this growing need. For a bakery with such a prominent position and visible popularity, this oversight feels particularly noticeable. It’s a missed opportunity, especially in a touristic city like York. If you’re someone who can indulge in gluten-filled delights, Thomas the Baker might very well hit the spot. But for those with gluten sensitivities or allergies, keep moving. A plea to the management team: A little more inclusivity could make this beloved bakery even better—and truly welcoming to all.

Lovely food, I got myself some deli sausage rolls and some ice buns too. Depending on whether it's cooked yet or not the service is fast. If I come back here for holiday again, I will be back for more 😋
