This book shop is such a find! If you are interested in art, architecture, garden and landscape design, town planning, conservation and all these sort of subjects, you will find so many interesting pre-loved books, catalogues, leaflets and so on. I highly recommend it. Janette and Lottie, the owners, are so knowledgeable about their subjects, and welcoming, with cups of tea offered for the serious browsers!
Secondhand bookstore specialised in architecture, urban planning and art in general. The store is tiny and the books displayed are not many, but they have a larger inventory if you care to ask. Prices are well above average, even for a specialised bookstore, sometimes closer to what first editions of famous novels cost than to out-of-print specialised books. But if money is not your problem (which unfortunately isn’t my case…) I am pretty sure you will leave this store very happy with 2-3 books you didn’t know they existed. Regarding the interaction with the bookstore staff, as other visitors have mentioned in their feedback, rather expect Teutonic manners than Yorkshire warmth. But make no mistake, to the seller credit , in a specialised bookstore expediency in finding and providing a book is, above all else, the name of the game. Last but not least, this bookstore is open only three days of the week (Wednesday through Friday).
A fabulous bookshop full of art, architecture and design books - old, new and obscure. The husband and I were engrossed for ages and came out with some treasures. Janette was so helpful and knowledgeable. We will be back!
Looks like a lovely little shop from the outside, had my book worm of a daughter wanting to spend her money there. Said 5pm close on the door, walked in, kids went in first, for them to be stopped at the threshold to be told ‘I’m closing in 5 minutes’. With hand waves which seemed to be saying go away! It was 2.55pm. Sometimes shops have to close early and that’s fine but there’s more polite ways of telling potential customers. Made my daughter feel very unwelcome. Walked down the road and bought books elsewhere.
Rude lady serving. Left in disgust. My father picked up an item in the shop which was expensive for what it was so he put it back. The lady then asked him what he thought was expensive nowadays. Very very rude indeed. Awful shop.
