The Minster Gate Bookshop

For me the attraction of a really good book shop lies as much in the look of the place as the books contained within. This shop housed as it is within the walls of one of Stonegates historic buildings could be said perhaps to have an unfair advantage from the start. As you work your way up the stairs, each new odd shaped room full of books is a joy to discover. All of the usual subjects / suspects are here, clearly identified and laid out in a way that positively encourages the casual browser to explore. If you have time out from all the other sights that will no doubt be clamoring for your attention, you could do a lot worse than to spend some of your time here.

A book lovers dream. Nestled in the street opposite the Minster, this rabbit warren of a bookshop has (I think) 5 floors stacked with modern classics and antique treasures. The staff were extremely knowledgable and willing to help. It is a bit of a maze but I enjoyed it and found it worth spending the time to find what you’re looking for.

I visited the store and I was amazed by the book choice and the incredible prices. There are multiple floors with different types of literature and it is an amazing place to go as a book lover. I bought a few books but regretted not buying a few others and I emailed them asking if they would ship them to me which they did. Thank you Lindsay for going above and beyond :) will definitely visit again when visiting York again

I love the atmosphere of this city. Strolling through its streets is a real pleasure. On this visit, I bought two valuable art books for myself. I’m so glad I discovered this place. Making new discoveries always makes me happy.
