Have always visited regularly since moving back to York a couple of years ago and have purchased many items. Over the past 6 months I started going with my dog occasionally as staff said it was allowed and she has separation anxiety so it made it easier to visit. Staff loved her, she always behaved. Anyway, I recently spotted a lovely Harris tweed sofa which was ok the pricier side but I was content to buy it after giving it some thought. I returned to the shop the following weekend with the intention of buying and was stopped at the door by a rather rude person I hadn’t seen before (stood in a group of staff who I did recognise/have interacted with my dog before and not said anything) who told me not to come in with my dog as they aren’t allowed. I apologised and said I didn’t realise the rules had changed while she just stared at me. I have no issues with places not allowing dogs but I have always been told by staff dogs are allowed and I found the approach on this occasion to be rude/awkward and very uninviting. I checked the door on my way out and noted no new signs saying dogs not allowed. Unsure if this is a new change or whether I have always been allowed in in error, however I won’t be back again and was rather upset to have been unable to purchase something I’d travelled back to the shop for . It felt embarrassing the way all of the staff just stared at my like I was stupid.

This is a great shop. If you go regularly you’ll find some steals. I furnished half my new house from here for peanuts. Constructive advice : don’t put stickers on furniture direct. Had some trouble peeling them off and removing residue. Otherwise great place.

Called in the other day looking for a wardrobe one or 2 that were suitable but the price was ridiculous. I shopped here often years ago but the prices now are unjustified. Even with the benefit price! One basic cheap small wardrobe over £100 I could buy new from a flat pack type store for that price. Instead of a community charity furniture shop all I saw was private student accommodation landlord! Less fortunate people even with the benefit reduction could not afford to shop here anymore. It’s sad to see and at those prices I doubt I’ll come in again. Staff once upon time would be walking around on hand to help or just saying hello, now sat in an office behind a glass window. Such a shame.

Just popped in with my mum who is 80 looking for a sofa. The young girl who i assumes works there was very helpful. The old lady who had obviously been given a badge of power was extremely rude im also presuming she is called karen. There is no need for anyone working in customer service to think its ok to speak to people the way she apoke to us today.

Pleased to report a very courteous and professional service from York Community Furniture Store. I've been downsizing after a series of life changing events this year. That left me with several large serviceable but now unwanted pieces of furniture. After a couple of failed attempts to donate to national charities I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easily YCFS collected my items. An initial telephone call to confirm details of goods and building access was swiftly followed by a visit from their polite and efficient team and the whole process was complete in just over 30 minutes. An excellent service and exactly what I needed to assist me through a challenging time.
