Stonegate Teddy Bears

A lovely little Bear shop in a unique location, with a good selection of bears and other related items to choose from. The size of the shop works both for and against them here. The smaller area has allowed them to easily create a Cosy and comforting space, perfectly conducive to the display and marketing of bears. However that same smaller area can also feel confined with the addition of even a few browsing customers. Access control at the door (a common sight at many York shops) does help, and also shows the owners are aware of and actively managing the needs of their customers. An absolute must for any bear enthusiast, though you may need to wait your turn to enter during busier times.

Gorgeous shop with amazing staff! Came yesterday Sunday 18th Aug and the lovely Jo asked my daughter about which Jellycat she was after. She wasn’t sure but thought it was Bartholomew bear and as there were only 2 left, Jo put one in the cupboard as we said we’d be back today! We went back today and Jo was true to her word, got the bear out and also introduced my daughter to some “special stock” which was upstairs. Turned out to be new stock that hadn’t gone in store and my daughter then had the task of deciding who she wanted! Her purchase ended up being Viola the bunny! Jo and the other lady (Jo had told the other lady about my daughter coming back aswell!) in the shop were so lovely to my daughter and us and very knowledgeable about all things Jellycat! Every time we come to York we come to the shop as it has to be one of the best shops there and as it’s so busy their patience with my daughter to chose was much appreciated!

This place is really wonderful, the owner of the store made a point to say how nice me and my fiance seemed since we had been there the year before, and had a little chat with us. In terms of the complaints of the store being too small, I completely disagree with it being an issue as the store is in York in which part of the enjoyment is walking around misshapen old and small buildings. The shop has character due to the small interior. There are also more than just jellycats and other big brands but a nice collection of specialty ones too.

Me and my partner visited York last weekend on a little “child free” trip, our first since having our baby boy. We share 2 children and decided to get them a gift from Stonegate Bears to take home with us. We purchased 2 bears and put the bag straight into our suitcase, returning home the next day. To our surprise, when we got home and took out the bears, the security tags were mistakenly left on! We were gutted and I was worried as we live 3 hours away from York… I did not fancy that drive back. I contacted the shop the next morning and the lady was so apologetic and helpful, they paid for shipping back to the store, removed the tags AND sent us the bears back the very next day, along with some bag charms as a surprise to make up for our delay. Our children are delighted and it’s a very kind thing of Stonegate Teddy bears to have done. We are beyond grateful and will make sure to return to yourselves in the future!
