A true 'budget' inn. If that's what you want, then this place might be fine for you. It's about a 15 walk from York city center. Looks a bit rough on the outside, front area, etc. My room was way up many many steep stairs, and facing the street, so not very quiet. No heat at all, which made it uncomfortable. Cheap towels and bed linens that didn't fit around the mattress. Fairly clean, but I'm picky and noticed details that needed attention- grimy light fixture, corners and baseboards dirty and dusty. A very small room, twin bed pushed against the wall, a cheap chipped desk and cupboard (put my suitcase on the desk- nowhere else for it) and a bathroom for a very little person. I'm not big, but sitting on the toilet, my legs literally touched the wall in front of me. Didn't attempt a shower. The sink has separate spigots for hot and cold water, so hard to use. I was in the breakfast room a little before 8; breakfast advertised from 8-9. It was dark and abandoned. A fellow came out and I told him I was hoping for a quick meal as I had to leave for a tour at 8:15. I settled for a bowl of cereal. Overall, it's not expensive- but you get what you pay for. I would not recommend it.

Great place value for money. Just 20 minutes walk from city centre. Excellent service and very friendly staff. The room was decent for the price and it was clean; that's what matter to us the most. Must mention the free parking. Absolutely recommended place.

I left within the hour. Very tired decor/establishment. Owners did phone me to ask if I'd checked in once I'd left. Self-service check-in but no instructions were sent before hand. Owner didn't ask me why I left - they know.

This place could be a lot cleaner as bedding or towels were not changed during our stay. Room could have been cleaner too. However in its favour the place is only a 10 minute walk into the city centre. Breakfast was adequate and hot but there was no choice of food. If you want a cheap place to stay I would say stay here and put up with the conditions.

You can't beat it for price. Yes it's old fashioned but good host, comfortable bed, loads of hot water and a good breakfast all for £60 a night. Oh and free parking all 5 mins from the centre of York.
