The Beckett

Beckett House is in the perfect location for a short walk to York centre, with a small supermarket and takeaways on route. The en suite room on the 2nd floor of the house was lovely, comfortable and so peaceful. We arranged to park outside the house for £5 per 24 hours which was sorted on our arrival, Melissa was waiting for us and was so chatty and helpful. Our car broke down/wouldn't start on our departure, Melissa and Paul were wonderful and again so very helpful and kept checking in with us until we were able to start our return journey home. An extra special touch and really lovely people and we will definitely return in the future. Our stay was perfect in every way.

The room was lovely, nice and clean, and smelled good too. Beds were low down and soft, very comfortable. The owner was really friendly and helpful. The location is great, 20 mins away from the train station, 10 minutes away from the Minster. The area was really quiet too. Wifi worked well also. Will definitely book here again next time I stay over in York.

I booked the beckett and got my dates mixed up. Completely my mistake. im not sure if I caught the host having a bad day however, instead of being understanding and trying to help (there were rooms available on booking.com) and I was more than willing to pay. She kept going on about having to defend herself, from what im not sure, as I had already accepted the error. she kept on shouting at us and telling us that she had done nothing wrong...which I had accepted and was trying to explain that no one was blaming her for anything. The host was very defensive and no amount of trying to calm her down was having any effect at all. In the end we just left. Based on the little we did see, it looked very small and cramped so we probably wouldn't re-book ( probably mutually agreeable lol)

The Beckett is a traditional guest house with modern touches at which you will receive the warmest of welcomes. The location is just on the edge of the centre of the city in a very quiet residential area, it will take you approximately thirty minutes to walk from the railway station or about ten pounds in a taxi. The lived in property is a great value for money place to lay your head, get a shower and enjoy a quiet relaxing nights sleep. For the money paid it was excellent night away it a fabulous historic city.

Amazing and peaceful location, really charming area, only 10 minutes walk from the centre Melissa is really lovely and welcoming! The room was good and quiet. The cleaning could have been a bit better especially in the bathroom/shower The negative point was for the mattress that had a hole on one side which made it difficult to sleep comfortably (room 2)
