About The Stable
Description
Sitting near the sleepy end of the unspoilt village of Newbiggin in Bishopdale The Stable has been recently converted from a traditional dales stable into a special two bedroomed property to sleep 4 plus 2 dogs. The cottage sits back from the road where there is a small lawn and a gravelled area with ample parking space for three cars.
Entry at the front is to a large, well equipped kitchen with tiled floor and a wide solid beech peninsula unit which is ideal for breakfasting. Off the kitchen is a spacious lounge/dining room with limestone fireplace and open gas fire. Both the lounge and kitchen have doors leading out to the patio and large terraced garden with lush borders and lawns and a bubbling stream with a waterfall which provides a natural water feature. The elevated position of the upper terrace affords beautiful views to the surrounding fields and fells.
A stairway leads from the lounge to two double bedrooms. The larger room has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet and the smaller has a double bed with en-suite washbasin and toilet. There are external stone steps to the larger bedroom which are a remnant of the days when hay was carried to the loft for storage but still accessible today.
This is a particularly lovely cottage with high quality furnishing including some antiques, all the modern comforts of home and comfortable under-floor heating. The Stable is the home of the property owners for the spring and summer months and consequently some cupboards are private, though, of course there is plenty of storage space for holidaymakers needs. Please note that the bath/shower is en-suite to the bigger bedroom probably making the cottage better suited to two couples who are prepared to share this arrangement.
Price £384 - £686 per week.
Bishopdale
Bishopdale perhaps typifies our understanding of an upland, glaciated valley with its steep sides and flat bottom that was formed by great ice movements in past ages, but is now gently eroded by the lazy meandering of Bishopdale Beck, the largest tributary of the river Ure in Wensleydale.
This small valley has many outstanding natural features. Among the most spectacular are the moorland streams that leave the high fells and rush to the valley floor down wooded gills where waterfalls and deep pools have been carved into the hillside by cascading water before it slows to the relative tranquillity of Bishopdale Beck.
Newbiggin
In lower Bishopdale where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale.
The village is peaceful, long and linear with the houses intermittent about a narrow street that is linked to the B6160 by a minor road and small lane but has no through traffic.
Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings' the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the dales.
