Hocus Pocus Tiny Hotel

Really pleasant stay - rooms are just like the photos and really easy to get into and check in and out of including opening the door with your phone which is handy. Just a heads up - Principuim magicae is located right by the entrance so you can hear everyone that comes in and out, and there is also a nearby bar that stays open until about 4am during the weekdays. But earplugs are provided and if you bring your own noise cancelling headphones it isn't too much of a problem. Location was amazing, very central and would definitely stay again:)

Wow, excellent themed hotel, great position near the Shambles. Clean, warm, comfy.... The only thing I would consider is if you like to get to sleep before 11.30pm it's hard as the hotel is next to a themed pub/bar. You are made aware of this when booking, so credit to the owners. So, thanks for a lovely stay at a fascinating hotel.

We have stayed here twice now and absolutely love it. Once with kids, once without, and it was a charm both times. The building itself is very old and charming and the owners have done a wonderful job making the rooms feel classic to the time period while making them modern enough in terms of amenities. Each room has a different theme which has clearly been meticulously planned out and the little bonuses offered (I won’t run any surprises , you’ll have to stay there yourself!) really make you feel like you have stepped into another dimension. The location is amazing, a minute from the Shambles, and there is a great pub next door as well. All in all, we love this place and have found our “forever hotel” in York.

We loved our stay in the Sorceryum room at the Hocus Pocus hotel, as it was so beautifully decorated and themed and we have never stayed at a hotel like it. The bed was amazing, big and comfortable and the wooden room was beautiful with all its little charming decor. Nice touch to have tarot cards in the box as well. TV worked great, kettle clean and attractive and I was really impressed by the giant mugs given and hot drink selection. Was nice to have a mini fridge as well to keep water cool. I did pay for an extra package to include fresh flowers and prosecco, but I absolutely loved the way the hotel presented it and it really did add a lovely personal touch to our stay. The bouquet of flowers was very big and the prosecco provided was lovely, as well as the big glasses. And the personalised note was hand written in lovely handwriting on an old looking parchment type of scroll, and was rolled up and tied with a ribbon. It was darling! The bathroom was very modern and we appreciated the good quality soaps provided. Our only complaint was that this bathroom was absolutely freezing the whole of our stay, and there is no heater whatsoever in there, no heated towel rail for example. Not sure if this is an extension to the room and that is why it was so cold, but unfortunately it was uncomfortablely cold each time we paid it a visit. Luckily the main room was warm enough and we had no complaints in there. Found the room and en suite very clean as well. The location is absolutely perfect, you are basically in the heart of the Shambles, but also tucked round the corner away from big crowds. The Valhalla bar next door is great and also quirky and serves amazing mead and food platters. We did not actually try the nearby pub and cafe (there's so much to try in York!!). As soon as you walk into the hall at this place you are amazed by the decoration and lighting and I think it is made super special and unique for your stay. We would definitely come again and maybe try out the other rooms, though I would also book the Sorcyrum again. And recommend to others! Not a 5 star on service only because I didn't deal with anyone in person or via email, but also because we had no problems. So unsure on the quality of service. But I was impressed by how nicely presented the room was and the amenities that were offered. Thank you for a perfect stay for our anniversary!

We stayed here on Monday 29th December for one night in the principium magicae room. The room was very different to anywhere we had stayed before and felt very spooky (in a good way!) the attention to detail was excellent and very clean. In regard to the noise reviews I couldn’t hear anything till around 9am but this could differ on weekends, the location was fantastic and right near shambles and cut and craft. Will be back soon more likely to experience another room! Thankyou for a brilliant stay.
