Such a disappointment! The room was I serios need of refurbishment, but if you love the same shade of grey everywhere then this is the place for you. The bed was probably expensive when it was bought in 1964 but in all honesty if your coming to York on a stag or hen do then stay here because you'll probably be too wasted to notice. On the plus, fantastic location and a great view of the river!

I stayed here two nights last week. Location of the hotel/restaurant was really good. Very central from both city centre and the train station both walkable by 10 minutes or less. The room was super clean however I stayed in room 3 and I could not use the shower as the drain was broken. Staff were made aware but nothing could be done. This left me having to go without for a long time. If you are a light sleeper please also be aware that because there are pubs literally on the street there is a lot of shouting and carry on. Even with my windows shut it was very noisy. The restaurant food was delicious. We came in evening, my partner got a burger and I got a pizza. Took a while to arrive but it was so worth it. Unsure if I would be back again as I think it is a bit expensive for what it is, but I still overall enjoyed my stay.

DO NOT STAY HERE ! Location was lovely and peaceful so from the outside we had high expectation and was really looking forward to celebrating our anniversary . However it all went downhill quickly . When we went up to our room it was very dark and dim and very steep steps up to our room and as we walked through the corridor our room was located on it ,smelt musty and felt like you couldn’t breathe . We walked in our room expecting it to be clean seen as though we paid for a “ deluxe double room “ and we got the complete opposite . It smelt like something had died in there and as we walked through we found broken tiles and mould all up on the wall . Stains on the walls of damp drip marks . Dust and cobwebs everywhere . Mould on the window which made the curtains smell musty and like wet dog . The bed was slanted and we found it extremely uncomfortable. when heading to reception to bring up these issues we are told that because we only payed £90 that’s basically what we get . I understand it was decent price for York however it should be safe ! And a cracked tile and mould is not safe and especially not so “ deluxe “ . Then when asking if we could possibly be moved or a refund so we could stay somewhere else the lady at reception refused . 4 weeks later booking.com refused my refund due to the property disregarding my complaint and state of the room . Will not stay here again .

The location is undeniably spectacular — right on the river and perfectly placed among other bars, making it ideal for soaking up a lively atmosphere. Unfortunately, as someone who works in hospitality, I couldn’t help but notice the service fell short of what such a prime spot deserves. Drinks felt overpriced, service was sluggish, and the energy from staff was… shall we say, more riverside drift than bustling flow. Our table service waiter spent a good half-hour leaning against a wall eating Mentos — which might be refreshing for them, but not for the customers waiting on orders. Other guests were commenting on slow food service and the generally lacklustre approach to hospitality. I do understand that busy nights can stretch staff, but this was a Monday with only five tables occupied. For such a location and price point, I expected sharper, more attentive service. A real shame — because with standards to match the view, this place could be exceptional.

Went for a meal at the bistro, local so didn't stay at the hotel. Nice cosy dining area. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food came quickly, was piping hot & very tasty, good sized portions.
