We reserved a table ahead of time which I recommend because the pub is always busy. We had some of the best fish and chips. The staff were friendly and helpful. I remember watching the most haunted team visiting here so to sit there felt special.

I booked a table a couple of weeks in advance for a birthday trip we were doing from South wales. I've always wanted to go to the fleece so was super excited. Booking was for the evening. We arrived at the pub about 15 minutes before our reservation and the place was packed. Great but by the time I got stuff attention to ask about the table I was told there was someone at our table & we were a few minutes early so just to wait with drinks at the front bar & the people would leave the table by 5.30 for us. We stood waiting at the front bar until 6pm and the people never moved. No staff members came to check the table was clear for us. I asked one young lad who was there and he said for me to ask them to move. When I spoke to them they were clearly very drunk and had no intention of moving. We did get a seat at a small table for about 10 minutes to finish out drinks but couldn't order food as that table was reserved for 6.30pm. There was a very drunk lady on the table by the doors also screaming Christmas songs after the top of her lungs every 30 seconds too. .. I have to be honest we finished the drinks and left. Such a huge disappointment. What's the point in a reservation system if the staff don't check the tables or clear them if someone's on them. I wanted to experience the pubs history, see the artifacts &enjoy a birthday meal but that never happened. I wouldn't return or recommend.

This place is amazing, We stayed in the Shambles room it was beautiful, the bathroom was huge. I booked without knowing it is known as the most haunted hotel. We did not see or hear anything, but we did feel a little something. We had drinks in the bar, the live entertainment was great. Breakfast was wonderful.

Lovely little pub, this is supposedly one of the most haunted pubs in york and I can totally see why. The feel of the pub was very spooky! The staff at the pub were very polite and friendly. Me and my partner both ordered a burger and chips, served relatively fast and the food was lovely. Only con to the pub was it was really busy! Overall lovely experience

My usual trip to the fleece when I visit York, my last being about 5 years ago, so always a nice experience to return. Love the quirky sloped floors, and sheer beauty of this old, magnificent pub. Food was good and tasty, and very well priced. Can't wait to be back.
