About

Description

For a fantastic day out for the whole family in York, visit the award winning Yorkshire Air Museum, just a short drive from the city centre and the UK’s largest independent air museum.

Get up close and experience more than a century of fascinating aviation history situated in the grounds of the former RAF Elvington wartime aerodrome, now lovingly restored. The collection includes more than forty aircraft and dozens of historic vehicles, many in full running order, from the mighty Victor and Nimrod of the Cold War Jets collection, through our World War Two Halifax bomber, Friday the 13th, right back to the dawn of aviation with our Wright Flyer full scale recreation and authentic World War One biplanes.

Chat with our engineers and watch them at work as they restore and maintain this unique collection of historic aircraft. Enjoy our dog friendly parkland style grounds and explore the unique, original Control Tower, restored to it’s original wartime condition.

Our busy calendar of events throughout the summer include live aircraft Thunder Days where visitors can experience the sights, sounds and smells of Cold War Jets and WW2 piston aircraft up close, while our own in-house NAAFI style restaurant serves up hot meals and snacks for the whole family.

There’s always something happening at the Yorkshire Air Museum, our Events Page on the Museum website always has details of our latest happenings
