A free community fun day is set to take place in Halifax on Thursday, 13th August 2026, aimed at promoting road safety and raising awareness about the importance of preventing road deaths and serious injuries. Organised by West Yorkshire Vision Zero, the event is part of a wider initiative to achieve zero road fatalities and severe injuries in the region by 2040.

Vision Zero Goals

West Yorkshire Vision Zero is a partnership focused on making roads safer for everyone. The ambitious goal is to eliminate all road deaths and serious injuries across the county, a target that resonates strongly with families and individuals who use the roads daily. The upcoming event will highlight the work being done towards this goal, and attendees will have the chance to learn more about the various strategies being implemented to improve road safety.

Event Activities

The fun day will feature a variety of engaging activities designed for children and young people, ensuring that road safety education is both enjoyable and informative. Some of the activities scheduled for the day include:

  • Crafts and games for children, such as a scavenger hunt and balance bike sessions.

  • Displays featuring emergency service vehicles, along with staff who can answer questions about their work.

  • Interactive road safety activities where participants can learn vital safety tips in a hands-on manner.

  • Free bike safety checks and minor repairs, provided by a qualified bike mechanic to ensure that everyone's bike is safe to ride.

  • Educational stalls offering resources and information on road safety practices.

The event is designed to be family-friendly and encourages community participation. Attendees will have the opportunity to sign the Vision Zero Pledge, committing to support efforts to enhance road safety in their local area.
