A vibrant tribute to legendary rugby player Sir Kevin Sinfield has been unveiled at Trinity Leeds as part of the Yorkshire Day celebrations. This impressive display, measuring 5 metres by 5 metres, is positioned under the main atrium near the Apple store, making it hard to miss for shoppers and visitors alike.
Sir Kevin’s Achievements
Sir Kevin Sinfield, known for his incredible career with the Leeds Rhinos, has recently been awarded a knighthood in recognition of his contributions to rugby and his philanthropic efforts. His fundraising work, particularly for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities, has made a significant impact, raising an astonishing £11 million. This fundraising is in memory of his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who sadly passed away from MND in 2024.
In a few weeks, Sir Kev is set to embark on his final challenge named “7 in 7: The Grand Finale.” This will see him run an ultra-marathon every day for a week in September, visiting all 12 English Super League grounds before finishing at Old Trafford, the famous stadium in Manchester, ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final. A Wall of Support
As part of the Yorkshire Day festivities on August 1st, visitors to Trinity Leeds will have the opportunity to show their support for Sir Kevin. A special ‘wall of support’ will be set up where fans can leave messages of encouragement on cards shaped like rugby shirts. This interactive feature will be available from 9am to 5pm, located between M&S and ROX. This is a chance for everyone to contribute their words of support and join in the celebration of a true Yorkshire hero.
Sir Kevin expressed his gratitude for the tribute:
“It’s a real honour for me and the charities to be a focus of Yorkshire Day at Trinity Leeds this year and to be playing my part in celebrating a city and a county which has been such a massive part of my life both on and off the pitch.”
